Hummer H2 Interior and Audio Install

2006 Hummer H2

Hummer H2 InteriorFor this project we upgraded a 2006 Hummer H2, stock interior to a full custom leather interior, and installed a custom JL Audio sound system. Lets go over some of the install…

First we started with removing the interior. Main reason why we start with the interior is, this takes some time, we prefer to get a head start on this part of our project. It also helps at the end of the project, so we are not waiting on parts. Once the seats are out, we proceeded with stripping the old leather wraps to get to the seat heaters. At the same time we started making a template for the new leather. This interior we used high quality black leather for the seats and audio rack. We also went with a white stitching and custom embroidery on all the headrests and on the audio rack. Along the way we added LED interior lights for mood under the seats and in the amp rack. The finished interior consisted of the following: new leather seats, LED interior lighting, LED mood lighting under seats and on amp rack, Kenwood DNX 9960 headunit, 2 6″ head rest monitors, one 10″ monitor on amp rack, bass control on dash, and along with push to talk GPS. Each door received a JL Evolution C5 component speaker, and our tweeters were placed on the door pillars

Now that the interior has been removed we move to the custom audio box. Lets go over how we want our sub box and amp racks. The best place to start is with the subs, we are using 2 JL Audio 12″W7 subs enclosed in a sealed box, which needs 1.375 cubic feet per sub. The customer with this vehicle wanted more “punch” or “kick” to the bass, thus the sealed box. In this application we used 1.25″ countertop MDF for the top and.75″ MDF for the rest of the box. Once you have built your sub enclosure to the right dimensions, you can see what room you have left over for other equipment. After your sub box is in place you can start the amp rack mock up. Figure out how you want them to sit and look, then build a secure mounting platform. You should be extremely careful with the mounting of the sub bow and amp rack. If they are not secured properly they can cause serious injury if they come loose in a sudden stop or an accident. We always bolt our sub enclosures to the car to ensure safety. This is also a good time to add Dynomat or any other sound dampening materials needed. Now that you have built your sub box and amp display its time to pull and start wiring.

For this install we used 16 gauge wire for drivers, 18 gauge for tweeters, and 14 gauge from crossover to amplifier. Next is the Stinger 6 channel audio RCA’s and 2 video cables. Powering the system we ran 0 gauge Stinger power wire and 4 gauge for the ground which will goes straight to the chassis at the amp rack. Finally we added a 250 amp inline fuse close to our Stinger audio battery.(Remember always place your fuse as close to the battery as possible in case your power line shorts out). Protecting Your Car Audio System

Car AudioIf you have recently invested in a car audio system, it’s vital that you protect your car and your car audio system from thieves. It’s integral that you take out insurance to cover your car and audio systems, as well as use extra security measures.

Thieves are regularly attracted to cars when they see a new car audio system and an unprotected car. Several awful things can happen if your car is not protected, as a thief may steal the stereo and leave a broken window at least, or could even steal the whole car as well. Moreover, joy riding is another problem car owners have to put up with. Having the right security options as well as taking preventative action will help you to protect your car as much as possible.

There are a variety of security options on the market, which can be used in conjunction with one another, these include:

(1) Car Alarms;

(2) Window Tinting;

(3) And Steering Wheel Locks.

Each has their advantages and will protect your car to a certain extent. A car alarm will obviously tell you when anyone is attempting to fiddle with your car, enabling you to call the police straight away. Most thieves will be scared away by an alarm, making it a good way to prevent a large amount of damage, as well as theft. Window tinting is a preventative measure, often used to prevent thieves from looking in the car. If they don’t believe there is anything to steal, they may walk away, rather than taking the risk of coming out with nothing. These two preventative security options are often used in conjunction with one another to stop car and car audio theft. Besides these two, steering wheel locks are regularly used. Steering wheels locks may protect your car from theft or joy riding; however, it will sadly not protect your car audio system. Read the rest of this entry »
